Okay guys, so there's been something bugging me lately about the fanfictions I've seen for PJO: the lack of mythological diversity.
Most importantly: there are more than twelve gods out there; don not, I repeat, DO NOT think that if you want a powerful character xe has to be a child of The Big Three. (In fact there shouldn't be any children of the Big Three, AT ALL). Try for some more parental diversity.
Secondly, there are more monsters our there besides the Hydra and hellhounds, trust me.
So in order to help all of you get a bit more creative with your mythology I have found the three best resources for you:
Zeus isn't the only god with a magical item to be stolen. Here's a list of magical items in mythology: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_…
Need to find a unique parent for your demi-god? Need a divine villain? This is a list of all Greek immortals:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_…
Every demi-god gets attacked by a monster something in their life, but not all of them get attacked by the same monster. Here's a list of every Greek creature:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_…
And if you have any questions as to how to incorporate these factors into your story, just message me. I have quite a bit of experience and probably will be able to help.
Go! Rejoice in your new-found diversity resources! I hope I helped and didn't sound too cynical!

NEW BOOK !
I have finished the first draft of my latest manuscript! And I'll tell you now, this one makes Lea's stories look like child's play! Here's a quick synopsis:
Six years ago Diane Atwood was possessed. This possession, while inconvenient, was not the worst thing that happened to her that week. And for the recently widowed and cripplingly lonely park ranger, a voice in her head that wasn’t her own became good company over the years to come. But as the people of her town begin to mysteriously go missing and blame is turned in Diane’s direction, the surprisingly symbiotic relationship between her and the amnestic entity that she share

Oh, hallelujah. I avoid fanfictions generally, but I've seen the art sometimes and it drives me nuts when people don't make works believable to work with canon. Also, as someone with an ancient studies degree, I appreciate Rick Riordan's commitment to the mythology... and irked by fans who barely wiki stuff. -.-
